Songs and Chants

The Sausage Machine Song

Chorus:
"Oh Mr. Johnny Verbeck, how could you be so mean
I told you you'd be sorry for inventing that machine.
Now all the neighbor's cats and dogs will never more be seen
They'll all be ground to sausages in Johnny Verbeck's machine."

There was a little Dutchman, his name was Johnny Verbeck
he was a dealer of sausages and sourkrout and speck,
he made the finest sausage that you ever did see
But one day he invented a wonderful sausage machine.

CHORUS

One day a little fat boy came walking in the store
he bought a pound of sausages and dumped them on the floor
The boy began to whistle, and he whistled up a tune
And all the little sausages went dancing around the room

CHORUS

One night the machine got busted, the dang thing wouldn't go
So Johnny Verbeck he climbed inside to see what made it so
His wife she had a nightmare, and while walking in her sleep
She gave that crank a heck of a yank, and Johnny Verbeck was meat....

CHORUS

Woodbadge Isle

(sung to Gilligan's Isle, by Corky Cross)
The patrols were mighty scouting folk,
Great leaders, brave and sure.
They'd all signed on for what they thought
Was a one-hour tour.
A one-hour tour.

The time demands were getting rough,
The tiny patrol was tossed,
The wise old hands stepped up to help
Before their spirit was lost.
Before their spirit was lost.

"Set sail for Wood Badge Isle, my boys,
It's a great experience.
You'll make new friends and learn new things
And live outdoors in tents.
And live outdoors in tents.

Your campsite's over yonder,
You're here for a long, long time.
You'll have to make the best of it,
It's an uphill climb.
It's an uphill climb.

The SPL and the leaders, too,
Will do their very best
To teach you all the needed skills
In this lovely Blue Hills nest.
In this lovely Blue Hills nest.

No hot dogs, no plastic cheese,
No beef that you'd call ground.
You'll eat like kings all weekend since
The kids are not around.
The kids are not around.

So join us here each week my friends,
It's sure to bring a smile,
With seven other great patrols
Here on Wood Badge Isle!"

Song Suggestions

I think somewhat shorter ditty's would be more in keeping or some traditional songs such as patriotic songs (America the Beautiful, Oh Suzanna, etc) something we all know and can just start singing on a moments notice. Does anyone play an instrument? I have a harmonica that I have just started to learn but am far from ready to give a performance. I have a "Boy Scout Songbook" that has all sorts of songs like these.

On Chanting

A Chant is quick to get the blood flowing, and its only purpose is to be louder than the last!

At assembally, or gatherings, where there is those awarkward quiet moments, we can burst this out, to fill a void, and start some of the friendly competition!

I would love to have all help fine tune this. It could be a real fun ice breaker between patrols!
