There are bears in every part of the known world. |
John Houlihan, as acting Patrol Leader led us in the Scout Oath. All patrol members plus Mike McPherson (Coach Councilor) were present.
Boo-boo led a discussion of the leadership skills we covered during the last training weekend. These included Setting the Example, Planning, Effective Teaching, and others. We had a short discussion of ticket questions, then Mike collected draft tickets and spent time reviewing them.
John reviewed what was discussed at the Patrol Leader's Council on Sunday, April 16
Planned gadgets include:
The Bear Patrol has volunteered to conduct the opening ceremony. Mike Lodge suggested an opening he found in Troop Program Notes. The patrol agreed and each will have a part.
We've settle on a final menu for our contribution to the big feast on Sunday night of this coming weekend. We will provide Chicken Stir Fry, Vegetable Stir Fry, White Rice, and Blueberry Cobbler. Corky will bring a chaffing dish and disposable pans. Food will be pre-cut and ready to cook. We talked about lashing some bamboo together to transport everything. John will make ingredient cards affixed to (what else?) foam core.
We need to plan two meals out on the trail for later Saturday and Sunday morning. We decided on pre-cooked Amercian Chop Suey in individual bags which can be boiled. Virtual no clean-up! For breakfast, we will have bagles, smoke salmon (yummy!), and cream cheese, along with juice packs and instant oatmeal. A simple cracker barrel will consist of crackers and cheese for late Saturady night. We each need to pack two liters of water.
We agreed that people would fend for themselves on Friday night, since Pizza was more of a hassle than we planned. Saturday breakfast will be bacon, eggs, and OJ. Saturady lunch will be subs, chips, and bug juice. Sunday lunch will be grilled cheese and ramen noodle soup.
The patrol discussed damage to loaned equipment. There was a general consensus that accidents happen and that the patrol should bear the cost of replacements or repair. Damage to date includes bear claw marks on Corky's griddle, a cracked lantern globe of Mike's, and a tear in the door of Dick's truck.
The following payouts were made from the patrol funds:
$20 to Mike for lantern globe replacement. This leaves a balance of $53 in the patrol fund.
$30 to Greg for additional T-shirts awarded in presentations.
$20 to Tom to cover pizza purchase last weekend.
$10 to Jeanne to purchase coffee mugs for each patrol member.
$8 to Jeanne to cover film development.
